But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.
~ Exodus 23:22
Now that there are believers who have literally never obeyed the LORD since they were declared Christian, permit me to postulate three pitfalls:
A. A graven image instead of the God of Israel
Do not imagine the things that God cannot tell you to do, follow Him whole heartedly so that you can hear Him say some really 'ridiculous' things. A graven image heart theology (a carnalized ideation of God) positions you for what God can do not what He can tell you to do; so when we hear Him direct us to contravene the norm of our soulical ease, we gladly retract. This is quite the tackle because substantial obedience is both sacrificial and disruptive.
B. It is a muscle of potencies not a strand of agreeableness
The Spirit finds most Christians agreeable, but hardly does He find an obedient one in a day's search. How so? Apparently, it takes both heart power and an energized psyche to truly obey. Instead of romanticizing obedience, generate the willpower it will take to dismiss doubt and hesitation through protracted hours of prayer and spartan fasting. Oh I prophecy the might!
C. In 2025, you need a fellowship of the radically obedient, not a bandwagon of sloths
What if Korah was just Dothan's bosom buddy, and what if Nathanael's obedience is actually credited to Phillip? If you are Dothan's friend, you will be a Korah, worse still if the Jannes that withstood Moses is actually married to a Jambres. One day you will realise that your covenantal relationships are your aggregate obedience because communion with the indifferent will always neutralize radical obedience.
